Job Description
The Supply Chain Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for all supply chain activities at Save the Children Uganda, ensuring efficient delivery and compliance across procurement, fleet, warehouse, and asset management functions. The role involves planning, capacity building, team management, and support for emergency response logistics. The manager also ensures alignment of local supply chain processes with global policies and donor requirements. Key responsibilities include developing logistics strategies, overseeing high-value procurements, maintaining donor compliance, managing supply chain risks, and ensuring strong internal controls.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Lead the development and implementation of supply chain strategies and operational plans
Ensure compliance with Save the Children global supply chain policies and donor requirements
Participate in proposal development and budgeting for supply chain components
Improve efficiency and accountability in procurement, fleet, and warehouse operations
Oversee implementation of emergency preparedness supply chain strategies
Technical/Operational:
Provide capacity building and guidance to field supply chain staff
Manage vehicle requirements, rental policies, maintenance, and insurance
Conduct quarterly procurement demand forecasts
Maintain effective warehouse and stock control systems
Review procurement documents and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures
Regularly analyze and report on supply chain KPIs
Capacity Building:
Mentor and coach supply chain staff to enhance technical and managerial skills
Facilitate induction and orientation on supply chain systems for new staff
Promote cross-functional collaboration for optimized logistics support
Team Management:
Provide leadership and oversight to the country office supply chain team
Conduct performance reviews, establish performance goals, and ensure staff accountability
Ensure all direct reports are adequately trained and supportedChain Manager
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education & Certification:
MSc/MA in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Public/Business Administration, or related field
Professional certification such as CIPS or equivalent is required
Experience:
Minimum of 8 years progressive experience in supply chain management
At least 5 years in a managerial role
Experience in international procurement, donor compliance, and contract management
Familiarity with supply chain ERP systems and high-volume procurement processes
Key Competencies:
Strong leadership, analytical and strategic thinking skills
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
Strong ethical standards and commitment to child safeguarding
Willingness to travel and work in emergencies as needed
