Job Description

This role involves operating rotary tablet press machines, monitoring tablet quality parameters such as weight, thickness, and hardness, conducting in-process quality checks, and maintaining documentation and equipment hygiene. The operator will assist with equipment setup and changeovers, report abnormalities promptly, and ensure strict compliance with safety and GMP standards. Candidates should be experienced in pharmaceutical compression operations and possess a commitment to quality and precision.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Operate compression machines in compliance with Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Setup and monitor compression equipment during tablet production.

  • Conduct in-process checks on tablet quality including weight, hardness, and thickness.

  • Record all observations and data in relevant process documentation.

  • Clean, sanitize, and maintain equipment according to standard cleaning protocols.

  • Assist with machine changeovers and setup for different product batches.

  • Report any deviations or equipment malfunctions to supervisors immediately.

  • Adhere to safety, hygiene, and gowning requirements.

  • Handle compression tools (punches and dies) carefully to avoid damage or contamination.

  • Participate in internal training and process improvement programs.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Academic Qualifications:

  • Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) is required.

  • A certificate or diploma in Industrial Technology, Packaging, or a related technical field is an added advantage.

Experience and Competencies:

  • At least 4–5 years of hands-on experience in pharmaceutical tablet compression or oral solid dosage manufacturing.

  • Strong knowledge of compression machinery, tooling, and tablet production parameters.

  • Familiarity with cGMP standards, equipment cleaning, and documentation protocols.

  • Ability to interpret BMRs and technical drawings.

  • Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience working in cross-functional production and quality teams.
