Job Description
The role will involve managing complex employee relations cases including investigations, disciplinaries, and appeals to ensure compliance with organizational policies and legal frameworks. The Specialist will analyze ER data and trends, identify areas for improvement, and propose solutions that strengthen organizational culture. The position also supports the integration of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into ER processes, advises managers on sensitive HR issues, and ensures that final recommendations are implemented effectively. The role requires building trusted relationships with staff, ensuring accurate record-keeping, and supporting Save the Children’s mission to create a safe, fair, and supportive workplace.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Lead investigations and resolution of employee grievances, disciplinaries, and appeals.
Provide expert advice to managers on complex ER issues, ensuring compliance with values, policies, and legal requirements.
Monitor and analyze employee relations trends and provide recommendations for improvement.
Build trusted relationships with employees to promote open communication and collaboration.
Partner with Country Office Senior Management Teams and legal teams to address complex ER matters.
Embed inclusive practices and ensure compliance with SCI’s DEI policies.
Maintain accurate documentation and records at all stages of the ER process.
Provide capacity-building support to managers on employee relations best practices.
Ensure effective implementation of recommendations and follow-up actions.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Essential
Significant experience managing employee grievances, disciplinaries, and appeals.
Proven ability to advise managers on complex ER matters.
Experience in monitoring ER trends and informing policy changes.
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
High integrity, ethical judgment, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Strong analytical and project management skills.
Expert understanding of employment laws and regulations in one or more SCI program countries.
Desirable
Experience in West and Central Africa or Latin America and the Caribbean.
Training or qualifications in mediation, conflict resolution, or labour law.
Professional HR certifications (e.g., CIPD).
Fluency in French or Spanish (in addition to English).
