Job Description
Reporting to senior management, the Senior Data Engineer will architect and lead the development of robust data architectures, including warehouses, lakes, and streaming platforms. The role involves taking full ownership of data pipelines, optimizing performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into scalable data solutions. S/he will play a leadership role by mentoring engineers, enforcing data governance practices, and driving innovation by adopting modern tools and frameworks.
Performance will be measured by the robustness and observability of data pipelines, the trustworthiness of data for business decision-making, the growth and mentorship of junior engineers, and the scalability of Roamtech’s data platform.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Architect and implement scalable data architectures (data lakes, warehouses, streaming solutions).
Build and maintain end-to-end data pipelines from ingestion to serving layers.
Define and maintain data models to support analytics, machine learning, and reporting.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through design discussions, code reviews, and training.
Optimize performance by identifying bottlenecks and tuning pipelines and queries.
Implement data governance measures, quality checks, access controls, and compliance with GDPR/CCPA.
Collaborate with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver data solutions.
Introduce new technologies, tools, and frameworks to enhance reliability and scalability.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Accounting, or related field.
Experience:
5+ years in data engineering or backend engineering, with leadership experience in large-scale data projects.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong programming skills in Python (or Scala/Java).
Advanced proficiency in SQL.
Hands-on experience with big data frameworks (e.g., Spark, Flink, Beam).
Knowledge of data modeling and distributed systems.
Strong problem-solving, leadership, and collaboration skills.
Familiarity with governance, compliance, and privacy frameworks (GDPR, CCPA).
