Job Description
The Software Engineering Technical Lead will oversee the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC), from ideation to deployment, guiding architectural decisions and ensuring best practices in coding, testing, and deployment. The role involves mentoring engineers, setting development standards, and managing technical debt while ensuring system security, reliability, and scalability. The Technical Lead will also collaborate closely with product managers, engineering managers, and business leaders to align software solutions with organizational goals and customer needs. This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse technology stack and lead the evolution of critical software products in a mission-driven environment.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Define and drive software engineering strategy and architecture, with an emphasis on Ruby on Rails.
Lead the full SDLC, from concept through deployment and maintenance.
Mentor and guide engineers, promoting best practices in coding, testing, and documentation.
Monitor and manage system performance, scalability, and security.
Manage technical debt, ensuring long-term maintainability of software systems.
Stay updated with emerging technologies, particularly within the Rails ecosystem.
Collaborate with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business priorities.
Implement efficient agile development processes and metrics to track team performance.
Support incident management, troubleshooting, and resolution within agreed SLAs.
Contribute to building a diverse, inclusive, and high-performing engineering culture.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
Minimum of 7 years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership role.
Strong expertise in Ruby on Rails for backend development.
Proven track record in software architecture, scalability, and maintainability.
Experience in agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
Strong understanding of data security, system performance, and cloud-based applications.
Hands-on full-stack development experience (front-end and back-end).
Excellent leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.
Proficiency in English; French is an added advantage.
