Job Description
Reporting to the Leaf General Manager, the Leaf Operations Manager will lead all operational aspects of the company’s leaf division. This includes supervising employees, managing crop production, and ensuring budgetary and quality compliance. The role requires a proactive professional to monitor and evaluate field performance, lead strategic planning, coordinate marketing season operations, and support agronomy compliance through Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). The manager will provide regular reports, maintain accurate operational data, and advise senior management on performance metrics and necessary interventions.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Oversee tobacco leaf growing to meet production volume targets
Monitor budgets and recommend cost-effective operational strategies
Supervise division staff and implement quality improvement initiatives
Plan, coordinate, and supervise leaf buying during marketing seasons
Evaluate and review divisional operational plans annually
Advise the Leaf General Manager on divisional performance and planning
Monitor agronomy budget performance against actual expenditures
Assess crop yield and quality, and provide technical guidance for improvement
Ensure compliance with all agronomy SOPs by field staff and farmers
Monitor adherence to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), and recommend corrective actions
Compile and submit monthly reports from all sub-zones
Maintain accurate databases including farmer records, input distribution, and field activities
Perform any other duties assigned by management
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Natural Sciences, or related field
6–8 years of experience in tobacco farming and leaf production
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Proven ability to make sound decisions under pressure
Leadership and interpersonal skills with a results-oriented mindset
Proficiency in computer use, especially budget and database management
