Job Description
The Senior Butcher will be responsible for preparing meat products by cutting, trimming, grinding, tying, and packaging them according to customer requests. This role also involves advising customers on meat choices and preservation, inspecting meat for safety, ensuring hygienic working conditions, managing inventory and records, and adhering to local food safety laws. The ideal candidate will be skilled in using various butchery tools and capable of organizing meat displays for easy identification and selection.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Cut, grind, debone, trim, tie, and prepare meat products
Listen to and advise customers on meat selection and preservation
Display prices, weigh, package, and store meat properly
Inspect meats for quality and safety before processing
Ensure compliance with food safety laws and regulations
Maintain cleanliness of the meat preparation area to prevent contamination
Manage records, budgets, and meat inventory
Use butchery tools and equipment safely and efficiently
Arrange meat displays for easy identification and customer access
Coordinate delivery of meat orders to customers
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
BTEC Higher National Diploma or Diploma of Higher Education in a related field
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a butchery or similar food preparation environment
Strong knowledge of meat cuts, safety, and hygiene standards
Customer service and communication skills
Ability to manage inventory and maintain records
Skilled in using butchery tools and handling raw meat
Attention to detail and ability to work in a clean and efficient manner
