Job Description
The Field Operations Engineer – Fibre will conduct preventive and corrective maintenance of fibre infrastructure, including cables, closure kits, ducts, and manholes. They will perform detailed inspections, fault detection, splicing, and quality validation. They are also expected to maintain accurate system records and execute quality improvement initiatives to enhance service availability and performance.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Evaluate, test, and repair malfunctioning fibre network infrastructure.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance routines covering optical cables, closure kits, ducts, and manholes.
Generate sensor indicators and conduct inspections to identify and rectify potential faults.
Carry out regular inspections of the assigned systems and repair any defects found.
Maintain accurate system records and system diagrams.
Perform fibre optic maintenance tasks including point of break/link analysis, splicing, core alignment, and splice quality validation.
Ensure all maintenance work is carried out safely, including working at heights, in confined spaces, and during all weather conditions.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Electronic/Electrical/Telecommunication Engineering or a related field.
Higher Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Certification in Fibre Technology.
Training in Optical Fibre Technology.
Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience in fibre maintenance.
Proven ability in analyzing trends, undertaking root cause analysis, identifying key issues, and implementing corrective actions to improve network service availability and quality.
Technical Competencies
Proficiency with fibre optics maintenance tools and techniques.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Strong troubleshooting skills.
Strong customer focus and planning and organizing skills.
Ability to work at heights (certified), in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions.
