Job Description
The selected freelance interpreters will play a vital role during CHAN 2024 by providing interpretation services for press conferences, official meetings, and other side events. Working across multiple languages, they will ensure accurate and culturally sensitive communication between stakeholders. Interpreters will be contracted under a one-month framework agreement and must be based in Kenya, Uganda, or Tanzania. The role requires a high degree of professionalism, linguistic fluency, and the ability to adapt to the fast-paced nature of international sports events.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Provide simultaneous or consecutive interpretation during CHAN 2024 events.
Accurately interpret discussions at match press conferences, official meetings, and other side events.
Ensure the correct use of football/sports terminology.
Maintain confidentiality and professional decorum at all times.
Work closely with CAF officials, event organizers, and media personnel.
Be available for on-site and potentially remote assignments.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Diploma in Conference Interpretation from a recognized institution.
Fluency in one or more of the following languages as A and B languages: French, English, Arabic, Portuguese, Swahili.
Professional residency in Kenya, Uganda, or Tanzania.
Strong passive comprehension and active interpretation skills.
Knowledge of football/sport terminology is an added advantage.
Excellent sentence construction, diction, and register control.
Ability to work in a high-pressure, multicultural environment.
Willingness to travel and learn new terminology and styles.
