Job Description
The Technical Advisor - Environmental (Facilitator) will support the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership and other initiatives under the Global Programme on Nature for Development. The role includes providing technical guidance on spatial planning, environmental data use, and policy development to promote nature-based solutions aligned with the Global Biodiversity Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals. The Advisor will engage with stakeholders including governments, indigenous communities, and civil society, contributing to platforms such as the UN Biodiversity Lab and Learning for Nature.
The position involves:
Supporting the use of spatial data for biodiversity planning and policy.
Facilitating knowledge sharing and training through courses, case studies, and online platforms.
Building the capacity of national and local stakeholders in environmental governance.
Promoting community-led solutions to sustainable development.
This position is based in Kampala and reports to the Sustainable Development Cluster within UNOPS.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Provide expert technical input on biodiversity, ecosystems, and nature-based solutions.
Facilitate capacity-building programs and stakeholder workshops.
Support the development and implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs).
Lead stakeholder engagement with indigenous and local communities on spatial planning.
Promote knowledge sharing through digital learning platforms and publications.
Collaborate with global partners to collect, analyze, and disseminate spatial data.
Contribute to the production of policy briefs, reports, and communication materials.
Ensure alignment with international biodiversity frameworks and UNDP strategies.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Environmental Studies, Geography, Biodiversity, or related fields.
Strong experience (typically 7+ years) in environmental governance, biodiversity planning, or related areas.
Proven experience working with international development agencies or UN organizations is an asset.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate multi-stakeholder engagement, including indigenous communities.
Excellent knowledge of spatial data tools and platforms (e.g., GIS, UN Biodiversity Lab).
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability to deliver capacity-building and technical training.
