Job Description

The Communications Interns will work closely with the Communications Unit to support a wide range of communication activities. They will draft social media content, create digital assets, monitor media coverage, and support the production of stories, blogs, and videos that highlight UNDP’s impact. The internship is ideal for recent graduates or students seeking practical experience in a development communications setting and will offer valuable exposure to the operations of a leading international development organization.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Digital Media and Content Creation

    • Draft and edit social media posts (Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) aligned with UNDP branding

    • Design infographics, banners, quote cards, and other digital assets

    • Support creation and editing of video content, including short reels

  • Media Monitoring and Analysis

    • Monitor print, online, and broadcast media for UNDP-related coverage

    • Prepare regular media monitoring summaries

    • Compile digital engagement analytics reports

  • Storytelling and Writing

    • Draft feature stories, blogs, and news articles

    • Assist in gathering testimonials and field visit documentation

  • Photography and Visual Documentation

    • Capture photos during events and missions (when applicable)

    • Organize photo/video archives with metadata and captions

  • Administrative and Logistical Support

    • Assist in organizing communication events and campaigns

    • Support exhibitions, launches, and outreach activities

  • Other Tasks

    • Any other communications-related duties as assigned

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, International Relations, Journalism, or a related field.

Experience and Skills:

  • Familiarity with social media management

  • Experience with graphic design tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite

  • Basic knowledge of photography and video editing

  • Good writing and storytelling skills

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Proficiency in English and Swahili
