Job Description

True North Consult Ltd is a boutique HR Consultancy Firm offering Outsourced Manpower services, HR Advisory and Executive search & selection services to selected clients across East Africa.
We are sourcing for suitably qualified professionals to assign to our Client to fill the job of Transport Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities

Transportation Planning and Coordination

  • Route Planning: Developing efficient transportation routes for goods and personnel to minimize costs and delivery times.

  • Scheduling: Coordinating the scheduling of deliveries and pickups to ensure timely and accurate service.

  • Load Optimization: Managing the loading and unloading of goods, optimizing space utilization in vehicles.


Fleet Management

  • Vehicle Maintenance: Overseeing the maintenance, repair, and servicing of the fleet to ensure safe and reliable operation.

  • Fuel Management: Monitoring fuel consumption and managing fuel purchases to control costs.

  • Fleet Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of vehicle registrations, inspections, and insurance.


Logistics and Supply Chain Coordination

  • Inventory Management: Coordinating with inventory managers to ensure the timely movement of goods in and out of storage facilities.

  • Supplier Coordination: Communicating with suppliers and vendors to arrange shipments and manage delivery schedules.


Compliance and Safety

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that all transportation activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including vehicle and driver safety standards.

  • Safety Protocols: Implementing and enforcing safety protocols and procedures for drivers and other staff.


Communication and Customer Service

  • Client Interaction: Communicating with clients to provide updates on shipment status and address any issues or concerns.

  • Internal Coordination: Working closely with other departments, such as sales, customer service, and operations, to coordinate transportation activities.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • A bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field is often preferred. However, relevant experience may substitute for formal education in some cases.


Professional Experience

  • Experience: Several years of experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain management. Experience in fleet management or a related role is highly valuable.


Technical Skills

  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), route planning software, and other relevant tools. Familiarity with general office software, such as Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Data Analysis: Strong data analysis skills to interpret transportation data and make informed decisions.


Soft Skills

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, vendors, and team members.

  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve issues quickly and efficiently.


Knowledge and Understanding

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of transportation regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements.

  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the logistics and transportation industry, including best practices and current trends.


Personal Attributes

  • Attention to Detail: High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in planning and execution.

  • Leadership: Leadership skills to manage a team of drivers and other transportation staff.

  • Flexibility: Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and work under pressure.
