Job Description
The Tax Manager will be responsible for tax management and compliance across TMA’s operations in Sub-Saharan Africa. The role entails ensuring timely and accurate tax filings, optimizing the use of exemptions, managing relations with tax advisors, overseeing audits, and supporting strategic tax planning. The incumbent will be based in any TMA country of operation and will serve as a central coordination point for tax matters, supporting both internal teams and external stakeholders.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare and file monthly withholding tax schedules and coordinate timely payments
Oversee corporate income tax filings in coordination with finance teams and tax advisors
Conduct monthly reconciliations for PAYE and withholding tax
Review financial statements for tax implications and compliance
Manage and optimize VAT exemptions as granted under Host Country Agreements
Coordinate compliance with other regulatory financial reporting requirements
Act as the primary liaison with tax advisors across all TMA operations
Manage and maintain documentation for all tax-related filings and records
Lead and respond to tax audits from authorities and donor/institutional auditors
Conduct tax health checks and risk assessments
Support proactive tax planning and optimization for TMA and TCA
Develop and implement a tax control framework and tax policy document
Design and deliver training programs to build internal tax compliance capacity
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic and Professional Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (or postgraduate) in Accounting, Finance, Tax Administration, or related field
CPA or equivalent professional tax/accounting certification is required
Work Experience:
At least 7 years of tax experience for bachelor’s degree holders or 5 years for postgraduates
Proven experience in a reputable organization or tax advisory firm
Understanding of tax laws in multiple African countries
Prior experience in international institutions with multi-country operations
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications
Other Competencies:
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Excellent communication and coordination abilities
Ability to work across cultures and geographies
