Job Description
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Finance Manager will manage the organization’s finances, including reporting, audits, budgeting, compliance, and grants management. The ideal candidate must be technically sound, analytically strong, and capable of managing cross-functional financial responsibilities while leading the finance team to achieve high standards of accountability and transparency.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Prepare timely and accurate financial reports
Ensure IFRS, Kenyan legal, and donor compliance
Lead monthly/annual financial closings and external audits
Budgeting & Financial Planning
Lead budgeting and financial planning processes
Analyze budget variances and recommend adjustments
Provide financial risk assessments and forecasts
Grants Management & Donor Compliance
Track and report donor funds per grant agreements
Ensure timely and accurate donor reporting
Support due diligence for funders
Compliance & Risk Management
File and remit statutory obligations (PAYE, VAT, NHIF)
Monitor regulatory changes and ensure compliance
Maintain internal controls to mitigate financial risks
Accounting & Treasury Oversight
Manage daily accounting, payroll, cash flow, and banking
Optimize accounting systems and software
Team Leadership & Capacity Building
Mentor and supervise finance staff
Build financial literacy across the organization
Promote a culture of transparency and fiscal responsibility
Organizational Support
Collaborate on procurement, grants, and partner financial oversight
Handle additional finance-related tasks assigned by leadership
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (Master’s an added advantage)
CPA (K), ACCA, or equivalent certification (mandatory)
Minimum 7 years’ experience in finance, including 3+ years in a senior NGO role
Strong knowledge of Kenyan tax and compliance laws
Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel
Strong leadership and team management skills
