Position Overview
The Special Support Teacher – English and Reading will support students—particularly English Language Learners (ELLs)—in enhancing their English language and reading skills. The role also involves helping students engage effectively with the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) primary-level English curriculum.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Assess student performance through diagnostic tools, classwork, and teacher feedback to determine English proficiency levels.
Develop tailored schemes of work, weekly and monthly lesson plans, and individualized learning materials.
Deliver both in-class support and small group pull-out sessions to help students improve English proficiency and reading comprehension.
Integrate e-learning tools where appropriate, with approval from the Head Teacher and CEO.
Provide small group instruction in Social Studies, addressing learning gaps and building year-level competency.
Monitor daily progress for each student and submit weekly individual progress reports to the Head Teacher and CEO.
Identify and address barriers to learning through targeted strategies and action plans.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor's degree in Education, with specialization in English or Humanities.
Minimum of 5 years (72 months) of relevant teaching experience in English and Reading, preferably within national or international curricula.
Prior experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) is a strong advantage.
Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to working with English Language Learners.
Ability to work effectively one-on-one and in small group settings.
Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Open-minded and willing to adopt new teaching methods and feedback.
