Job Description
Vacancy Title: Technical Advisor – Environmental (Facilitator)
Organization: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
UNOPS, a central UN resource for sustainable project services, is implementing project activities on behalf of UNDP under the Global Programme on Nature for Development. This role supports this programme through technical expertise and facilitation on environmental and biodiversity-related matters.
The selected candidate will work closely with the Equator Initiative, National Biodiversity Initiative, and Global Forest Initiative, contributing to efforts that support local, national, and international progress toward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Facilitate stakeholder engagement and capacity building activities.
Support spatial planning initiatives and the use of spatial data (e.g., UN Biodiversity Lab, ELSAs).
Promote knowledge sharing, including participation in MOOCs, webinars, and e-learning modules.
Assist with the implementation of the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership and related biodiversity initiatives.
Provide technical advice aligned with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Global Biodiversity Framework.
Contribute to developing publications, case studies, and story maps on biodiversity practices and policies.
About the Global Programme on Nature for Development
This program integrates three flagship initiatives:
Equator Initiative: Celebrates and supports grassroots solutions for sustainable development.
National Biodiversity Initiative: Strengthens ecosystem governance and biodiversity planning.
Global Forest Initiative: Supports nations in meeting the New York Declaration on Forests and biodiversity targets.
Tools and platforms like the UN Biodiversity Lab and Learning for Nature are central to this work, enabling knowledge exchange and spatial planning to advance global biodiversity goals.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education: Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biodiversity, natural resource management, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 4 years (48 months) of relevant professional experience.
Language: Proficiency in English is required.
