Job Description
Reporting to the Project Coordinator and working closely with the Technical Lead for SBC, the SBC & Gender Officer will oversee the planning and execution of SBCC and gender-related activities. The officer will develop context-specific materials, support community and school-based initiatives, and provide technical guidance on gender equity, disability inclusion, and protection. The role also includes fostering local partnerships, contributing to evidence-based learning, and integrating feedback and advocacy mechanisms. The Officer will also collaborate with the MEAL team to support the integration of gender and disability indicators.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Design and implement SBC and gender mainstreaming strategies
Create/adapt IEC/BCC materials suitable for local contexts
Conduct training and community sensitization sessions
Lead integration of gender equity, disability inclusion, and protection measures
Collaborate with local leaders, farmer groups, schools, and government stakeholders
Drive behavior change messaging on health, hygiene, nutrition, and child protection
Serve as focal person for CSAFE, advocacy, knowledge management, and feedback systems
Collect, analyze, and report gender and age-disaggregated data
Contribute to donor reporting and documentation
Promote women’s leadership and inclusion in project activities
Ensure alignment of activities with project objectives and national policies
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Nutrition, Public Health, Gender Studies, Community Psychology, Education, Social Sciences, or a related field
Postgraduate qualification in a related area is an added advantage
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in SBC, gender, disability inclusion, protection, education, agriculture, or nutrition programs
Experience in participatory community engagement and school feeding programs
Prior work with multilateral agencies, government, and donor-funded projects
Previous experience in Karamoja or a similar rural setting is desirable
Must possess a valid motorcycle riding permit
Competencies:
Strong skills in developing SBC content and conducting community dialogues
Demonstrated gender and disability mainstreaming knowledge
Ability to write high-quality donor reports
Knowledge of food security, climate adaptation, and nutrition-sensitive programming
Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
Ability to engage diverse groups (e.g., women, youth, elders, PWDs)
Commitment to transparency, accountability, and team collaboration
Familiarity with data collection tools and MEAL frameworks
