Job Description
The Risk Manager will play a critical role in embedding risk and compliance practices within Old Mutual. This includes monitoring risk policy implementation, conducting stress tests, sensitivity analysis, and scenario simulations, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The incumbent will identify and address potential risk areas, guide management and staff on mitigation strategies, provide regular reports on risk exposures, and support business continuity. The role also entails delivering training and awareness sessions, developing risk standards, monitoring AML/CFT risks, and ensuring alignment with the Group’s methodologies.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Monitor the implementation of Group risk policies, procedures, and systems; identify gaps and recommend corrective measures.
Conduct stress tests, sensitivity analysis, and scenario simulations with the Group Head of Financial Risk, updating EXCO and the Board on risk exposures and mitigation strategies.
Monitor compliance against established benchmarks and regulatory requirements, including transaction monitoring and reporting to regulators.
Identify potential risk areas and control gaps; recommend and follow up on corrective actions.
Provide risk and compliance awareness through training, communication, and guidance to staff and management.
Prepare dashboards, quarterly Board reports, and regular risk and compliance reports covering financial, operational, compliance, and AML/CFT.
Conduct risk assessments, oversee RCSA reviews, monitor KRIs, and analyze loss data.
Assist in developing and reviewing company risk standards, policies, and procedures.
Conduct AML/CFT risk assessments for new products, services, and delivery channels.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Professional certification/qualification in Risk Management or Actuarial Science.
Minimum of 5+ years’ mid-level experience in risk management within the insurance sector.
Strong financial risk expertise preferred.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.
Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
Strong ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and drive consensus across teams.
Proficiency in analytics software, database reporting, and risk assessment tools.
