Job Description
The Research Officer will work within multidisciplinary teams to advance IHI’s malaria control agenda by studying mosquito ecology, vulnerabilities, and intervention effectiveness. The role requires expertise in entomological surveillance, mosquito sampling, and advanced data analysis. The officer will also contribute to scientific publications, policy briefs, and stakeholder engagement to translate research findings into practical, scalable malaria elimination strategies.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Investigate ecological, environmental, and operational factors influencing malaria vector suppression or elimination.
Develop and validate tools for monitoring mosquito populations from high densities to elimination levels.
Identify and target mosquito vulnerabilities across life stages for control interventions.
Test, adapt, and optimize elimination strategies across diverse ecological contexts.
Collect, manage, analyze, and interpret both field and laboratory data.
Produce high-quality reports, scientific manuscripts, and policy briefs.
Present findings to scientific communities, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary research teams and external partners.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Entomology, Biology, Environmental Health, Biotechnology and Laboratory Sciences, Epidemiology, or a related field.
At least 2–3 years of experience in vector control, entomological surveillance, or related research.
Proficiency in mosquito sampling techniques and species identification.
Strong data analysis skills using R, Python, Stata, or equivalent statistical software.
Experience conducting fieldwork in challenging environments.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within teams.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with attention to detail.
Knowledge of malaria vector ecology and control strategies is essential.
