Job Description
The Reporting Accountant is responsible for preparing timely and accurate financial reports in compliance with IFRS and Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) requirements. This includes preparing audited statements, board papers, consolidation packs, and reinsurance accounts. The role supports budgeting and forecasting, investment reconciliations, and month-end closure. The incumbent will maintain the fixed asset register, oversee ERP/financial system implementation, and ensure robust internal controls. The position also carries responsibility for Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and compliance by implementing KYC standards, conducting due diligence, and escalating potential breaches.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Ensure compliance with IFRS standards (IFRS 9, IFRS 16, IFRS 17).
Submit regulatory returns to the IRA and prepare audited statements and board packs.
Liaise with underwriting and finance teams to record and reconcile reinsurance transactions.
Monitor reinsurance accounts, payments, profit commission, and cash call collections.
Support business planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
Reconcile investment portfolios and income postings.
Oversee month-end closures and ensure accurate revenue recognition.
Maintain and update the fixed asset register.
Support financial system implementations and ensure compliance with internal controls.
Facilitate IRA licensing applications for new managers/directors.
Ensure compliance with AML, KYC, and sanctions policies, reporting breaches where necessary.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
Professional qualification: CPA(K), ACCA, or equivalent.
Minimum 1-year relevant experience in financial reporting or accounting.
Knowledge of life insurance products and regulatory environment.
Proficiency in ERP/accounting software (e.g., Thought Express, Microsoft Dynamics AX).
Strong knowledge of IFRS standards (IFRS 17, IFRS 9, IFRS 16).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.
High integrity, attention to detail, and ability to meet strict deadlines.
Effective collaboration and communication skills.
