Job Description
Job Title: Project & Change Manager
Company: Absa Bank Uganda
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Job Purpose
To lead the successful delivery of strategic business and technical change initiatives within Absa Bank Uganda and Absa Group. This includes oversight of critical projects, complex programs, and guiding other project managers to ensure alignment with business objectives and compliance with Absa’s methodologies and standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
1. Project Definition & Planning
Facilitate and document business requirements, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
Develop Stage 1 and Stage 2 business cases; secure sign-off from key stakeholders.
Define project scope, timelines, budget, and structure; ensure resources are secured.
Ensure projects are well-funded and senior stakeholders are fully engaged.
2. Execution & Delivery Oversight
Lead end-to-end project delivery across single or multiple countries.
Manage cross-functional teams, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
Monitor development, testing, deployment, and change control processes.
Manage risks, issues, and dependencies proactively; ensure readiness for operational handover.
Lead external procurement processes and contract negotiations, ensuring clarity in scope and deliverables.
Prepare accurate project forecasts, resource plans, and status reports.
3. Stakeholder & Team Management
Define and manage project team structure; recruit and develop team members.
Provide leadership and mentorship to less experienced project managers.
Evaluate and manage team performance, ensuring continuous development and knowledge sharing.
Identify and deliver training aligned with project objectives.
4. Reporting & Communication
Provide regular updates and status reports to leadership and governance bodies.
Maintain project documentation on Absa’s Project Tool and contribute to board-level reporting.
5. Risk & Compliance Management
Identify and manage project risks and ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
Maintain alignment with Absa’s change governance framework and external regulatory requirements.
Conduct audits and implement quality assurance and control measures.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Technical Skills & Competencies
Project Management Tools: Experience with Jira, Q-Metry, Power BI, MS Teams.
Methodologies: Agile (Scrum, OKRs), PMP or PRINCE2, value-based delivery.
Change Management: Human-centered change execution, communication planning.
Digital Literacy: Skilled in using project tracking, reporting, and collaboration platforms.
Leadership: Strong stakeholder management, team development, and strategic influence.
Planning: Ability to manage detailed schedules and resource allocation efficiently.
Knowledge & Experience
Proven track record in delivering complex change programs within financial services, fintech, or telecom (MNO).
Demonstrated experience in managing all phases of project lifecycle.
Understanding of risk, compliance, and governance frameworks.
Skilled in people and capability development, including training delivery and knowledge transfer.
Qualifications
Required:
PMP or PRINCE2 Practitioner certification.
Degree or equivalent in Business, IT, or related field.
2–5 years' experience leading business change initiatives.
Preferred:
Human Change Management Certification.
Experience in Absa Group or a similar financial services environment.
Knowledge of Absa’s Change Governance Framework.
