Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Supervise departmental staff and counselling practicum trainees within the University.
Facilitate group counselling sessions for clients facing similar challenges.
Develop and implement counselling and guidance initiatives as needs arise.
Organize and deliver educational programs—including talks, seminars, and workshops—on mental, emotional, and relational well-being for the university community.
Build and regularly update a counselling resource library including books, pamphlets, and audio-visual materials.
Pursue continuous professional development through personal study, mentorship, peer learning, workshops, and further formal training.
Participate in administrative and management meetings within the Directorate of Student Affairs and the Finance & Administration Division.
Represent the University in matters related to counselling and holistic wellness.
Coordinate and implement community outreach counselling programs.
Foster partnerships and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Encourage stakeholder engagement and participation in wellness initiatives.
Lead the development and management of addiction support programs.
Perform any other official duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
A Master’s degree in Counselling or a related field from a recognized institution of higher learning.
A Bachelor's degree in Counselling or a related field from a recognized institution of higher learning.
Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in counselling, with a focus on working with young adults.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong interpersonal and professional skills, with the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team (including medical staff, chaplaincy, academic departments, administration, Dean of Students, and other mental health professionals).
Excellent listening skills and the ability to build warm, respectful, and empathetic relationships.
Sound judgment and discernment in referring clients to appropriate professionals when needed.
Effective time management and problem-solving abilities.
High integrity and a strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
Professional Requirements:
Full registration and accreditation with the Uganda Counselling Association.
A mature, practicing born-again Christian.
