Job Description
The Production Officer for Medical Diagnostic Devices will oversee and supervise the day-to-day operations of the production of diagnostic kits, lateral flow devices, and other related products. This includes managing raw material preparation, reagent formulation, and the assembly, labeling, and packaging processes. The officer will ensure that production activities are carried out according to standard operating procedures (SOPs), batch production records, and regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with ISO 13485, GMP, and the company’s quality management system (QMS), maintaining accurate production documentation, managing staff training, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, the officer will work closely with the quality assurance, R&D, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot production issues and ensure the smooth running of production operations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and supervise daily production activities of diagnostic devices in compliance with SOPs and batch production records
Oversee raw material preparation, reagent formulation, and semi-automated/automated production processes (dispensing, laminating, die-cutting, assembly, etc.)
Monitor critical production parameters and environmental conditions in cleanrooms and controlled areas
Ensure adherence to ISO 13485, GMP, and internal QMS during production
Maintain detailed production documentation, equipment logs, and material traceability records
Train and manage production staff to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and productivity standards
Participate in the validation, troubleshooting, and scale-up of new production processes and device formats
Support internal and external audits by ensuring documentation and operations are audit-ready
Coordinate preventive maintenance and calibration of equipment with engineering and QA teams
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency, minimize waste, and improve quality
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Biotechnology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or a related field
Certification or training in ISO 13485 and GMP is an added advantage
3–5 years’ experience in medical device or diagnostics manufacturing
Experience with lateral flow devices, ELISA kits, or other IVD technologies is highly desirable
Solid knowledge of cleanroom operations, aseptic handling, and device assembly workflows
Familiarity with ISO 13485:2016, cGMP, and QMS documentation requirements
Proven ability to supervise production teams in a regulated manufacturing environment
Strong problem-solving, documentation, and coordination skills
