Job Description
Job Title: Officer, Tax (Fresher Jobs)
Organisation: Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
To maintain financial control on all tax lines and perform reconciliation, attestations and certifications as required. Perform the tax duty in accordance with standard operating procedures and within regulated timelines monthly, quarterly and annually. Help on all audits and to the business on all tax related queries. Ensure timely upload of tax payments and receipts on Encompass on a monthly basis. Support the management of tax risk for the Bank and provide required reports.
Assist and support the Manager, Tax and Regulatory Reporting with all reporting requirements to regulatory bodies.
Assist in liaison with external tax advisors and or legal consultants on complex tax matters to ensure sufficient and effective results.
Confer with BUs as required, to confirm all taxes have been covered before payments are made, e.g. HC.
Build and maintain good relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Create awareness of changes in tax law and the implications of such changes to internal stakeholders to ensure compliance is maintained.
Calculate the tax figures for budget.
Monitor and proactively provide advice on adverse tax variances to business units. Apply proper compliance on tax advice in terms of SLA’s among Stanlib and Liberty as support services.
Prepare monthly tax computation, tax information pack, commentary and payment schedules for the Bank to ensure relevant compliance with regulations and laws.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
First Degree in Finance and Accounting or related field
Post Graduate Diploma Finance and Accounting
1-2 years tax experience within the banking environment
Understanding and interpretation of the tax laws, financial and tax reporting
