Job Description
The MEAL Assistant will collect, enter, and manage health data using manual and electronic Health Information Systems (HIS/HMIS). The role involves supporting health staff in understanding and applying data for clinical improvement, assisting in accountability efforts such as documenting feedback mechanisms, and leading learning and reflection sessions. The assistant will help ensure data quality, timely reporting, and compliance with data protection standards, while promoting MTI’s safeguarding and ethical standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Monitoring & Evaluation
Capture patient information on paper and electronic HIS/HMIS registers daily
Clean and validate data to ensure quality and reliability
Generate weekly and monthly reports as per standard requirements
Conduct basic data analysis and present trends to health facility staff
Organize CMEs to review and interpret medical data
Mentor facility staff in data management best practices
Input program output data into DHIS2, HIS, and donor platforms
Ensure availability of reporting tools and registers at health facilities
Support the preparation of donor and progress reports
Accountability
Assist in assessments to evaluate quality of services
Safeguard patient data and uphold data protection protocols
Support documentation of community feedback mechanisms (e.g., community dialogues, listening sessions)
Learning
Lead facility learning and reflection meetings
Track implementation of action points arising from learning sessions
Other Duties
Promote safeguarding practices and uphold MTI's policies on sexual exploitation, abuse, child protection, and workplace ethics
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education & Certification:
Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Social Sciences, Information Technology, or a related field (Required)
Experience:
Minimum 1 year managing health data in a Ministry of Health or NGO setting (Required)
Experience in HIS/HMIS data systems and working in health settings is an added advantage
Prior work with international NGOs is an asset
Knowledge:
Basic understanding of data management and health data analysis
Familiarity with data quality standards
Skills:
Proficient in HIS/HMIS systems, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Skilled in basic data visualization and reporting
Ability to mentor and build data management capacity among staff
Abilities:
Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail
Ability to uphold ethical standards and confidentiality
