Job Description
This role involves managing research projects in humanitarian contexts, particularly in Uganda’s refugee-hosting districts. The successful candidate will design and implement quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, manage a team, coordinate with humanitarian actors including UNHCR and the Office of the Prime Minister, and produce high-quality reports to guide strategic decision-making. The role requires expertise in multi-sector assessments, familiarity with aid systems, excellent communication skills, and the ability to operate in complex and challenging environments.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Lead the design, implementation, and management of multi-sector research and assessments in humanitarian settings.
Supervise and manage research teams ensuring quality data collection and analysis.
Coordinate with humanitarian partners, government agencies, and UNHCR for data sharing and response planning.
Prepare detailed research reports, policy briefs, and presentations for stakeholders.
Ensure adherence to security protocols and operate effectively in challenging environments.
Apply quantitative and qualitative analysis tools and software to interpret data.
Support capacity-building initiatives and promote knowledge sharing across teams.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
At least 4 years of relevant experience in humanitarian program management, research, evaluation, or assessments.
Excellent quantitative and qualitative research design and data analysis skills.
Strong familiarity with humanitarian aid systems and coordination mechanisms, especially UNHCR-led responses.
Demonstrated experience managing research teams.
Prior exposure to multi-sector, area-based, thematic, remote sensing, or climate-related assessments is desirable.
Experience working in East Africa or similar regions preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, public health, development studies).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of statistical software such as R, SPSS, or STATA is an asset.
Ability to work independently and adapt to cross-cultural, complex environments.
Ability to work under security constraints and in challenging field conditions.
