Job Description
The Medical Officer will document thorough histories and examinations, order/interpret investigations, initiate and monitor treatment plans, and ensure timely consults and referrals to specialists. The role includes conducting ward rounds, procedures within scope of training, coordinating admissions/consents/discharges, updating patients and next of kin, supporting CMEs/research, participating in M&M and quality improvement activities (incident reporting, RCA, QIPs), and rotating across departments as needed. The MO will liaise with insurers (reports/updates), attend departmental meetings, uphold patient privacy/confidentiality, drive patient satisfaction, support service growth/marketing, and ensure financial stewardship through accurate billing, pre-authorizations, exclusions enforcement, and proper documentation. Escalate HR/equipment/supplies gaps to OPD/Hospital Manager and foster a positive, team-oriented work culture.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Complete accurate clinical documentation (history, exam, investigations, management).
Initiate and maintain appropriate patient management; perform procedures within training.
Consult and refer early/appropriately to specialists; conduct timely reviews and ward rounds.
Update patients and next of kin on progress; coordinate admissions/consents/discharges.
Lead/participate in CMEs, research, M&M meetings, incident reporting, RCA, and QIPs.
Ensure availability of resources (HR, equipment, supplies); escalate deficiencies.
Uphold privacy/confidentiality; champion evidence-based practice and continuous skills improvement.
Engage in department meetings; rotate across units as required.
Prepare medical reports; provide insurer updates when required.
Drive patient satisfaction through quality care, communication, feedback, and follow-up.
Support service diversification and marketing to grow client numbers.
Meet financial objectives: accurate/timely billing, pre-authorizations, exclusions, documentation, and invoice delivery.
Maintain positive attitude and teamwork culture.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB/MBBS).
Valid KMPDC licence.
Updated BLS and ACLS/ATLS certification.
Experience
At least 3 years’ post-internship experience.
Skills & Competencies
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
High attention to detail; results-oriented.
Commitment to evidence-based practice, quality, and teamwork.
