Job Description
The role involves conducting laboratory tests, interpreting and reporting results to clinicians, maintaining laboratory inventory and quality control, ensuring hygiene and sterilization protocols are met, and managing biomedical equipment. The technician will also support capacity building within the medical team, supervise the Laboratory Assistant, and contribute to medical ethics and integrity in line with MTI’s Code of Conduct.

How to Apply
Collect and analyze samples, including through phlebotomy and home visits
Interpret and report results to clinicians while maintaining confidentiality
Process and follow up on specimens sent to external laboratories
Maintain quality control measures on samples
Enforce hygiene, sterilization, and infection prevention protocols
Manage biomedical equipment maintenance and report malfunctions
Handle inventory management and requisitions for lab supplies
Organize and conduct Continuous Medical Education (CMEs) sessions for staff
Supervise and mentor the Laboratory Assistant
Conduct performance reviews and manage discipline as needed
Uphold the highest standards of ethics and medical conduct
Perform other duties as assigned
Education & Certification:
Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science (Required)
Registration with Allied Health Professionals Council (Required)
Valid practicing license (Required)
Additional qualifications in Laboratory Management (Added advantage)
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience in a similar role (Required)
Experience with international NGOs (Added advantage)
Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of laboratory practices and equipment operation
Familiarity with hygiene management and IPC protocols
Skills:
Competent in laboratory investigations and result interpretation
Skilled in training and mentoring other staff
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Abilities:
High attention to detail and analytical thinking
Maintain strict confidentiality with patient data
Adherence to MTI's mission and Code of Conduct
