Job Description
Position Title: Human Resource Officer
Organization: Educate!
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Position Summary
Educate! is seeking a Human Resource Officer to support core HR operations in Kampala, Uganda. The role is ideal for a self-driven, detail-oriented HR professional with a strong administrative background, excellent coordination skills, and a passion for improving employee experiences.
Reporting to the Human Resource Manager, you’ll support key functions including recruitment, employee benefits administration, staff documentation, events, compliance, and HR systems management.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
1. Benefits Administration & Compliance (35%)
Manage employee benefits programs (medical, GPA, etc.), including enrolments, claims, and invoice processing
Serve as the liaison with benefits providers
Communicate employee perks and policy updates to ensure staff are well-informed
Coordinate and guide staff on internal scholarship applications and processes
2. Talent Acquisition & Onboarding (25%)
Support high-volume recruitment for field roles in collaboration with the HR Coordinator
Lead recruitment processes from job posting to offer, ensuring a smooth and consistent experience
Plan and manage comprehensive onboarding for new hires, including orientation logistics, access to tools, and welcome materials
3. Contracts, Records & Leave Management (20%)
Maintain accurate employee records in both the HR shared drive and BambooHR
Conduct regular data audits to ensure completeness and compliance with contract terms
Manage staff leave processes and monthly leave reporting in line with policy
Dispose of outdated records in compliance with company and legal requirements
4. HR Logistics & Culture Initiatives (20%)
Coordinate work permits, NGO special passes, and ensure compliance with labor regulations
Plan and implement team-building activities and staff recognition initiatives
Act as a culture champion, facilitating feedback loops between HR and field staff and addressing concerns proactively
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Who You Are
Organized and detail-oriented – You can manage multiple processes without dropping the ball
Tech-savvy – Proficient in Excel/Google Sheets and comfortable using HR systems (e.g. BambooHR)
Proactive and independent – You take ownership, prioritize well, and follow through
Strong communicator – You write and speak clearly and professionally at all levels
Collaborative – You work well across departments to ensure HR processes run smoothly
People-centered – You understand the value of great employee experiences and culture
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (preferred, but relevant experience will be highly considered)
Minimum 3 years of HR, admin, or operations experience, ideally in the non-profit or social enterprise sector
Demonstrated success managing HR systems, compliance processes, and staff support services
Experience with HR documentation, SOPs, and data tracking tools
