Job Description
The Head, CIB Credit will be responsible for setting the country’s CIB credit strategy, policies, and processes that support business growth while managing risk. This includes managing credit risk profiles, ensuring compliance with group parameters, and providing leadership to the credit team. The role requires deep expertise in evaluating credit risk, managing local and cross-border transactions, and engaging with key stakeholders across departments to ensure alignment between credit strategy and business goals. The incumbent will also lead in stakeholder engagement, risk reporting, and implementing robust governance frameworks.

Establish and implement a country CIB credit strategy aligned with Standard Bank Africa’s overall business strategy.
Manage the CIB credit risk portfolio within approved risk appetite and group standards.
Evaluate and monitor credit risk profiles for corporate and investment banking clients.
Provide leadership and guidance to the CIB credit department staff.
Collaborate with other business units to ensure credit strategy supports broader organizational goals.
Oversee local and cross-border credit transactions to ensure compliance with risk frameworks.
Ensure robust credit granting, recoveries, and financial statement analysis processes are in place.
Drive stakeholder engagement and provide accurate, timely risk reporting to senior leadership.
Lead by example in promoting accountability, innovation, and delivery of results.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Finance & Accounting, or related field (required).
Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CFA, or ACIB are strongly preferred.
Experience
7–10 years’ experience in credit risk management, particularly in Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB).
Proven management experience, including handling local and cross-border credit transactions.
Skills & Competencies
Strong ability to interpret data, provide insights, and produce accurate credit risk reports.
Expertise in credit granting, recoveries, loan assessment, and risk management.
Strong stakeholder engagement and leadership skills.
High-level decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to inspire, influence, and hold people accountable while aligning business strategies to credit frameworks.
