Job Description
The successful candidate will oversee the maintenance, recommissioning, and improvement of HVAC and building management systems. Responsibilities include capturing and maintaining equipment data in SAP, linking maintenance schedules, conducting incident investigations, providing advisory support on regulatory requirements, and delivering Level 2 technical support. The role also involves analyzing failures, compiling risk notifications, supporting HVAC replacement projects, and ensuring CCRAM (Compliance, Constructability, Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability) standards are met. The technician will design smaller HVAC solutions, perform heat load calculations, and compile regular performance reports while engaging with clients in technical discussions.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Provide maintenance support for plant and equipment issues.
Ensure accurate asset data capturing and updates in SAP CMMS.
Perform on-site asset verification and link maintenance schedules.
Compile site-specific equipment job plans and engineering instructions.
Review and maintain asset maintenance strategies.
Recommission HVAC and BMS equipment to original design criteria.
Advise regions on statutory and regulatory requirements.
Provide inputs for HVAC maintenance contracts.
Offer Level 2 support for breakdowns and reinstatements.
Conduct audits, job observations, and incident investigations.
Analyze failure data and implement preventive measures.
Manage plant and equipment asset life cycle.
Compile condition reports for projects and risk processes.
Draft funding requests for HVAC replacements/upgrades.
Compile and track risk notifications.
Design and implement small-scale HVAC and ventilation systems.
Perform cooling capacity management and database updates.
Approve project specifications from a CCRAM perspective.
Participate in project meetings and site inspections.
Analyze performance data and recommend improvements.
Compile Data Centre monthly reports and attend client technical meetings.
Perform general administrative functions.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education & Qualifications
BTech Degree, S4, or N6 in Mechanical / Refrigeration & Air-conditioning Engineering.
Electrical Engineering qualification (advantage).
Trade test in Refrigeration & Air-conditioning (required).
Electrical trade test (advantage).
Grade 12 (Matric).
Code B driver’s license (frequent travel required).
Experience
10–15 years’ experience in design and maintenance of HVAC systems.
Technical / Core Competencies
Knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, and components.
Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals.
Strong skills in incident/failure investigation, root-cause analysis, and technical reporting.
Functional training in mechanical, air-conditioning, and ventilation.
Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, HIRA, and discipline-specific SANS codes.
Proficiency in MS Office and SAP CMMS.
Skilled in heat load and ventilation calculations.
Knowledge of method statements, quality standards, and safety protocols.
First Aid and Health & Safety training.
