Job Description
The Pharmacy Manager will be responsible for dispensing, pharmacy administration, stock management, and maintaining high standards of customer service. The role includes planning and monitoring operations, scheduling and resourcing staff, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with pharmacy legislation. Leadership responsibilities include mentoring interns, developing assistants, motivating staff, and addressing performance and disciplinary issues. The Pharmacy Manager will also collaborate with prescribers, suppliers, and internal departments while ensuring smooth pharmacy operations and execution of marketing campaigns.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Individual Responsibilities
Dispense medication in compliance with pharmacy standards.
Handle pharmacy administration, housekeeping, and stock control.
Deliver excellent customer service.
Drive sales, compliance, and marketing campaigns.
Management Responsibilities
Plan and prioritize operational work and staff scheduling.
Monitor operational performance and ensure targets are met.
Manage staff resourcing and enabling capacity.
Build and manage cross-functional relationships with prescribers, suppliers, and head office.
Resolve escalated operational issues.
Manage pharmacy budgets effectively.
Leadership Responsibilities
Develop, mentor, and tutor staff, interns, and assistants.
Motivate and discipline team members.
Build a high-performing, customer-focused team.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education
Bachelor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent qualification (essential).
Registered as a Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) (essential).
Registered as a tutor (advantageous).
Experience
Proven experience managing staff (essential).
Retail pharmacy experience (essential).
Skills & Knowledge
Strong knowledge of retail operations, dispensing, and ordering systems.
Knowledge of pharmacy legislation and compliance requirements.
Financial management principles and systems knowledge.
Computer literacy (MS Office).
Experience with Unisolv (essential) and Marconi (advantageous).
Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills.
Strong organizational and planning abilities.
High attention to detail.
Customer-centric mindset with excellent communication skills.
