Job Description
The Engineering Operators will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of mechanical and utility systems essential to pharmaceutical manufacturing. They will assist in the preventive and corrective maintenance of various equipment such as HVAC systems, water purification units, air compressors, and boilers. Daily responsibilities include monitoring equipment performance, reporting malfunctions, and performing basic servicing tasks like oiling, greasing, and part replacements. The operators will also support the installation, calibration, and repair of plant equipment and infrastructure, maintain cleanliness and order in engineering areas, and ensure all tasks are performed following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). The role requires adherence to safety guidelines and proactive participation in maintenance activities and validation exercises.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Assist engineers in daily preventive and corrective maintenance of production and utility equipment
Monitor equipment performance and report malfunctions, leaks, or unusual conditions
Perform basic maintenance tasks, including oiling, greasing, and part replacements under supervision
Operate tools and machinery for mechanical and electrical maintenance
Support the installation, calibration, and repair of equipment and infrastructure
Maintain cleanliness and organization in workshops, engineering stores, and utility rooms
Record maintenance activities, service tasks, and spare parts usage in logbooks or CMMS
Follow safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
Participate in shutdown maintenance, validation support, and equipment qualification exercises
Assist in handling spares, tools, and materials required for engineering works
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum of Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE)
A certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering is an added advantage
1–2 years of relevant experience in industrial operations or technical maintenance roles
Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, and procedures used in engineering maintenance
Familiarity with industrial safety, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and GMP environments
Ability to read basic technical drawings and follow verbal or written instructions
Physically fit, detail-oriented, and willing to work shifts in a manufacturing setting
