Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer will handle the mechanical aspects of production systems including the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of pharmaceutical machinery and utility infrastructure such as HVAC, water systems, and compressed air systems. The role includes supporting validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ), leading mechanical inspections and preventive maintenance, and ensuring mechanical systems are compliant with industry standards. The position also involves supervising contractors, maintaining detailed technical documentation, and contributing to engineering improvements and efficiency projects in a regulated manufacturing environment.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, and maintain production and utility systems (HVAC, water systems, compressors).

  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance for pharmaceutical equipment (e.g., granulators, tablet presses).

  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues to minimize equipment downtime.

  • Support qualification processes including IQ, OQ, and PQ.

  • Maintain technical records such as calibration logs, fault reports, and maintenance history.

  • Ensure compliance with GMP and safety standards for all mechanical work.

  • Supervise mechanical contractors during installations or repair works.

  • Support CAPA implementation and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Optimize utility performance and support energy-saving initiatives.

  • Adhere to mechanical design standards and operational safety procedures.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Academic Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field from a recognized institution.

  • Professional certification or membership in an engineering body is an added advantage.


Experience and Competencies:

  • Minimum of 2–4 years of mechanical engineering experience in a pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environment.

  • Strong technical knowledge of pharmaceutical equipment and utility systems.

  • Experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, and GMP-compliant documentation.

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, CMMS tools, and reading technical diagrams.

  • Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
