Job Description
The Encapsulation Operator is tasked with operating and supporting the capsule filling process, including machine setup, powder or pellet loading, fill weight monitoring, and quality checks on capsule integrity and locking. The role requires adherence to established procedures, maintaining a clean production area, conducting in-process quality checks, and documenting all activities in line with cGMP and Good Documentation Practices (GDP). The ideal candidate should possess practical experience with encapsulation equipment and be committed to delivering consistent output in a controlled environment.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Operate semi-automatic or automatic capsule filling machines as per BMRs and SOPs.
Weigh and load powders or pellets into machine hoppers, ensuring correct alignment of capsule shells.
Monitor parameters such as fill weight, capsule locking, and rejection rate during production.
Perform and document in-process quality checks, including weight variation and capsule appearance.
Support machine setup, cleaning, lubrication, and changeover activities.
Maintain hygiene and cleaning standards in the encapsulation area per SOPs.
Record production, cleaning, and machine logs accurately as per GDP.
Report equipment issues, deviations, or quality concerns promptly to the supervisor.
Handle approved, rejected, and quarantined capsules according to protocols.
Participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic Qualifications:
Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) is the minimum requirement.
A certificate or diploma in Industrial Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, or a related technical field is an added advantage.
Experience and Competencies:
At least 3–4 years of hands-on experience operating capsule filling machines in a pharmaceutical setup.
Solid understanding of encapsulation processes and machine troubleshooting.
Knowledge of cGMP and GDP standards and documentation protocols.
Accuracy in following instructions and maintaining production consistency.
Physically fit and able to work in a cleanroom environment under controlled conditions.
