Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the Community Health Officer, the Community Health Assistant will operate both in health facilities and within the community, with approximately 80% of work conducted in the field. The role focuses on disease prevention and health promotion by supporting immunization, reproductive health, hygiene, sanitation, and health education campaigns. The Assistant will be accountable for activity planning, data collection, VHT supervision, and compliance with public health laws, while also assisting in reporting and documentation aligned with IRC’s professional standards and donor requirements.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Implement community-based health activities.
Coordinate reproductive health programs, including family planning and antenatal care.
Enforce the Public Health Act, regulations, and by-laws.
Account for and manage allocated resources.
Collect and submit health data to the Community Health Officer.
Plan and conduct immunization and vaccination campaigns.
Compile quarterly sanitation data and CBHIS reports.
Supervise daily hygiene and sanitation in the catchment area.
Monitor and support Village Health Team (VHT) activities.
Conduct bi-weekly community health meetings.
Follow up on clients defaulting on treatment, especially TB and HIV cases.
Facilitate health education and promotion sessions in both facilities and communities.
Support reporting, communication, and donor documentation processes.
Participate in work plan development and implementation.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Certificate in Environmental Health, Enrolled Nursing, Comprehensive Nursing, or a Diploma in Public Health from a recognized institution.
Must be registered and licensed with relevant professional bodies.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in health and nutrition project implementation, preferably in a community or humanitarian context.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong computer skills
Excellent counseling, teaching, and facilitation skills
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholder
