Job Description
The Enrolled Nurse will provide direct nursing care to patients, including observations, diagnosis, treatment administration, and health education. They will ensure patients receive compassionate and high-quality care in alignment with prescriptions and protocols. The role involves assisting in emergency triage, maintaining hygiene and sterilization standards, managing biomedical equipment, dispensing medication, and supporting reproductive health, nutrition, and community outreach programs. Accurate recordkeeping, patient confidentiality, and adherence to MTI’s Code of Conduct are integral to the position.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Deliver nursing services including patient observation, diagnosis, and treatment
Address patient complaints, escalate critical issues, and support health education
Assist patients with personal hygiene, movement, and feeding
Triage patients during emergencies and administer first aid where necessary
Support clinical staff in ward rounds, admissions, and discharges
Dispense medication as prescribed and provide usage instructions to patients
Participate in PHC activities including maternal and child health (MCH), family planning, PMTCT, and HCT services
Assist in community health education and outreach programs
Monitor and request restocking of drugs and nursing supplies
Maintain and perform minor maintenance on biomedical equipment
Ensure strict hygiene and universal precaution standards are maintained
Maintain accurate records and submit timely reports
Uphold integrity, ethics, and MTI Code of Conduct in all medical practices
Perform any other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education & Certification:
Certificate in Comprehensive Nursing from an accredited institution
Registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council
Valid practicing license is required
Experience:
Minimum of 6 months of experience in a nursing role
Experience working with international NGOs is an added advantage
Knowledge:
Professional nursing procedures and patient care techniques
Infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols
Safe medical and non-medical waste disposal practices
Skills:
Ability to apply nursing care principles in diagnosis and treatment
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Good command of English (written and spoken)
Abilities:
Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
Treat all individuals with respect and without prejudice
Deliver high-quality, compassionate, and patient-centered care
Maintain detailed and accurate medical records
Adapt to challenging environments and manage stress effectively
Support MTI’s mission and adhere to its Code of Conduct
