Job Description
Job Title: Chief Internal Auditor

Job Summary:
Responsible for providing leadership to the Internal Audit department by ensuring it achieves its role of providing assurance and consulting services to the Bank through a systematic approach to evaluating risk management, Governance and controls to support the bank to achieve its strategic objectives.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
The Chief Internal Auditor is responsible for the overall review and supervision of the internal audit function in the Bank.
Reviewing and appraising the soundness, adequacy, application and efficiency of accounting, financial business processes and operating controls established and maintained by management to mitigate potential risk and/or detect their occurrence.
Reviewing the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the system controls. Appraising the risk management process to ensure that all key Risks are identified, measured, managed and monitored.
Assessing the inherent Risk at the entity level by considering factors such as management integrity, management experience, and the nature of the business conditions within the industry, among others.
Determine the extent to which corporate assets are properly accounted for and safeguarded from losses of all kinds.
Reviewing compliance with existing policies, plans and procedures, accounting pronouncements, applicable laws and regulations and contractual obligations which could have a significant impact upon operations and financial results
Performing operational reviews and appraising the economy’s efficiency and effectiveness with which resources are employed.
Determining whether the results of operations are consistent with established objectives and are being carried out as planned.
Reviewing new products and systems (including major enhancements on a timely basis to ensure that risks have been identified and adequate controls established.
Investigating and making suggestions for the deterrence of fraud.
Reviewing audit findings with auditees and issuing reports to senior management, identifying findings and where applicable offering recommendations
Present quarterly/regular audit reports to the Board and management
Cooperating with regulators, external auditors and others in monitoring, implementing agreed actions.
Ensure performance management of all subordinates to ensure that departmental goals and objectives are met; Set annual performance targets and monitor their progress.
Providing the Board of Cairo Bank Uganda with assurance on the risk management processes of the Bank and that management is not taking risks above the board set risk appetite.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
A Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university and professional training relevant to the role.
A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Experience.
Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a similar role, five of which should be in a managerial position in a supervised financial institution bythe Bank of Uganda.
Professional Qualifications e.g ACCA, CPA etc, are necessary.
Excellent knowledge of financial institutions’ operations andthe Regulations of supervised financial institutions in Uganda.
Skills and competencies.
Excellent knowledge of financial institutions.
Attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficiency in computer applications
