Job Purpose:
The Business Development Manager will drive the growth of a profitable Life Insurance portfolio, covering both Retail and Corporate Business, through all available distribution channels in Uganda. This role involves managing and developing relationships with banks, brokers, financial advisors (FAs/IFAs), unit managers, ADCs, partner outlets, and regional service managers to maximize revenue and market share.

How to Apply
Develop and execute a business development strategy to establish the company’s market presence and drive penetration
Build and maintain a strong brand presence with a focus on customer acquisition and awareness
Design and implement sales growth strategies and action plans to expand the customer base and drive premium revenue
Own the product portfolio strategy, ensuring a balanced and profitable mix of life insurance products
Implement sales incentives to drive new business while retaining existing policyholders
Conduct market research to understand customer needs, industry trends, and regulatory changes
Manage product development, sales, and marketing costs to ensure long-term sustainability and profitability
Collaborate with actuarial, underwriting, and operations teams to develop innovative, customer-centric products
Ensure seamless and competitive customer experience across all life insurance products
Maintain and align all product information and training materials with the company’s value proposition
Identify new product opportunities to support growth and differentiation
Monitor regulatory changes and ensure product compliance with industry standards
Build and nurture relationships with brokers and banking partners to drive revenue through strategic partnerships
Recruit, train, and retain a high-performing Financial Advisor team
Lead, coach, and manage the performance of sales and distribution teams to achieve targets
Collaborate with actuarial and underwriting teams to optimize pricing, product mix, and profitability
Represent the company professionally to clients, partners, and regulators
Manage client portfolios to ensure policyholder retention and profitability
Operate within the approved Delegated Authority Matrix
Perform other duties as assigned
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Achievement of sales and revenue targets
Growth of distribution channels and strategic partnerships
Customer satisfaction and retention
Market share expansion
Effective execution of strategic business plans
Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field; Master’s degree is an advantage
Professional insurance qualification (ACII, CII, DIU) or equivalent, or currently pursuing
Minimum 8 years relevant experience, with at least 5 years in a management role (financial services sector preferred)
Strong knowledge of the insurance industry
Results-oriented, with a proven track record of achieving or exceeding targets
Dynamic, resilient, energetic, and highly motivated
Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills
Digital marketing experience, preferably in a related industry
Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills across all organizational levels, including executive and C-level
