Role Overview
NRC is seeking a Youth Empowerment and Skills Officer to support the implementation of its youth-focused programming under the POWER initiative. The Officer will lead community mobilization, deliver skills trainings, support youth-led organizations, and enhance digital engagement to foster leadership, advocacy, and innovation among displaced and marginalized youth.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
General Duties
Implement youth project activities in line with NRC’s work plans and strategies.
Maintain accurate records, documentation, and regular progress reports.
Promote innovation and continuous improvement in youth programming.
Ensure youth safeguarding, inclusion, and accountability mechanisms are in place.
Represent NRC at relevant coordination forums involving youth partners and networks.
Uphold NRC’s visibility, branding, and accountability standards in the field.
Carry out any other duties assigned by the line manager.
Specific Duties
Lead sensitization campaigns in target communities about the youth program.
Organize and facilitate workshops and training sessions on topics such as:
Youth-led advocacy, digital literacy, social accountability
Business and entrepreneurship skills
Project management, creative activism, and communication
Raise procurement requests aligned with planned activities and budget.
Monitor and support youth-led projects implemented by Refugee- and Youth-Led Organizations (RYLOs).
Build and sustain relationships with POWER participants and community mentors through regular check-ins and feedback loops.
Support youth in accessing and using NRC’s digital tools and platforms.
Assist in developing success stories, newsletters, and communication materials.
Update tracking tools, contribute to reporting, and collect monitoring data in collaboration with the M&E team.
Facilitate cross-program learning and integration of youth methodologies into other sectors (e.g., Education, Protection, ICLA).
Provide digital engagement technical support to NRC staff as needed.
Key Interfaces
Internal: Youth Education & Training Specialist, Partnerships Coordinator, Digital & Innovation Coordinator, M&E team
External: RYLOs, community mentors, local partners, youth networks
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Essential
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Community Development, or related field.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in youth engagement, training, or community programming.
Prior work experience in refugee or urban displacement settings.
Strong facilitation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and digital tools.
Fluency in English (spoken and written).
Desirable
Experience mentoring youth or working with youth-led initiatives.
Familiarity with design thinking, innovation, and digital education tools.
Knowledge of human rights, advocacy, or community accountability processes.
