Job Purpose
The Underwriting Officer is responsible for evaluating insurance proposals by assessing risk, determining appropriate coverage, policy terms, and pricing in line with AAR General Insurance Uganda’s underwriting guidelines and risk appetite. The role ensures efficient service delivery and supports business growth through sound underwriting practices.

How to Apply
Risk Assessment & Evaluation
Review insurance applications to assess potential risks.
Analyze data such as applicant history, risk factors, and other relevant information to make informed underwriting decisions.
Policy Pricing & Terms
Determine appropriate premiums, terms, and coverage for various insurance products in line with company guidelines.
Recommend policy conditions or endorsements based on risk level.
Decision-Making
Approve or refer applications based on underwriting authority and company policies.
Ensure decisions are aligned with AAR’s risk appetite.
Documentation & Record Keeping
Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions, correspondence, and policy documentation.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal documentation requirements.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with Sales and Client Relations teams to support business acquisition and client servicing.
Provide technical advice and support to internal teams and intermediaries.
Claims Support
Collaborate with the claims department by providing background on policy terms and risk assessment during claims processing.
Product Development Support
Contribute underwriting insights during the development or revision of insurance products.
Market Awareness & Continuous Learning
Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks.
Participate in ongoing training and development initiatives.
Reporting & Analytics
Prepare regular reports on underwriting performance, risk trends, and loss ratios for management review.
General Duties
Support departmental performance objectives as outlined in the strategic plan and balanced scorecard.
Perform any other duties as assigned by management from time to time.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
Professional Qualifications:
Certification in Insurance (CII Certificate or Certificate of Proficiency – COP) is required.
Experience:
2 to 4 years of relevant experience in the insurance industry.
Strong understanding of insurance regulatory requirements and underwriting practices.
