Job Description
The Level 1 Technical Assistant role is a 12-month contract designed for individuals entering the IT or telecommunications industry. The position involves real-time monitoring of network alarms and incidents, ensuring prompt logging and escalation of issues, and supporting the field services team. Working within the Network Management Centre, Technical Assistants will be trained in fault and incident management processes and gain exposure to the operational backbone of telecommunications service delivery. The role requires flexibility, teamwork, and a willingness to work shifts, including after-hours, weekends, and public holidays.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Monitor network alarms in real-time
Log incidents promptly upon receiving alarms
Escalate incidents to appropriate resolution teams in a timely manner
Facilitate and track field service activities via the trouble ticketing system
Close and manage incidents following the fault management procedure
Understand and work in alignment with key performance indicators (KPIs)
Respond to a defined percentage of voice calls and emails within set service times
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Educational Requirements:
Matric/Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 (Essential)
IT or Telecommunications certifications (Advantageous)
Experience:
Basic IT or telecommunications knowledge (Advantageous)
Experience in a call center or service desk environment (Advantageous)
Skills and Competencies:
Strong logical thinking and communication skills
Self-driven with a proactive learning attitude
Effective under pressure and time constraints
Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Good time management, motivation, and judgment
Special Requirements:
Willingness to work shifts in a 24/7 operational environment
Ability to travel to sites during after-hours, weekends, and public holidays
Flexibility to work under different reporting lines as per operational needs
