Job Description
The incumbent will perform a range of warehouse duties to include expendable property data entry duties, inventory management duties and housekeeping duties. He/She is an incidental driver and will work under the supervision of the Expendables Supply Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities
Inventory Management: Supply Clerks are responsible for maintaining accurate records of inventory levels, including tracking stock quantities, monitoring replenishment needs, and conducting regular audits to ensure data accuracy.
Receiving and Inspection: They receive incoming shipments of materials and supplies, verifying the contents against purchase orders and packing slips. Supply Clerks inspect items for quality, quantity, and condition, and handle any discrepancies or damages appropriately.
Storage and Organization: Supply Clerks store incoming materials and supplies in designated warehouse locations, ensuring proper storage conditions and inventory rotation to prevent damage or spoilage. They organize inventory shelves and maintain a clean and orderly warehouse space.
Order Fulfillment: They fulfill requests for materials and supplies from internal departments or customers, accurately picking items from inventory, preparing orders for delivery or pickup, and ensuring timely distribution.
Shipping and Receiving: Supply Clerks coordinate outbound shipments, including packing items securely, preparing shipping documentation, and arranging for transportation or courier services. They may also handle receiving and processing returned goods.
Data Entry and Recordkeeping: They enter inventory transactions into computerized systems, update inventory databases, and generate reports on inventory levels, transactions, and stock movements for management review.
Inventory Control: Supply Clerks monitor inventory levels and usage patterns, identifying shortages, overstock situations, or obsolete items. They may recommend adjustments to stock levels, reorder points, or inventory policies to optimize inventory management processes.
Customer Service: Supply Clerks may interact with internal departments, vendors, and other stakeholders to address inquiries, provide assistance, and resolve issues related to inventory management and supply chain operations.
Qualifications and Competencies
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required for Supply Clerk positions. Additional education or training in inventory management, logistics, or related fields may be beneficial.
Experience: While previous experience in a similar role is preferred, it's not always a strict requirement for entry-level Supply Clerk positions. However, candidates with relevant experience in inventory management, warehousing, or logistics may have an advantage.
Attention to Detail: Supply Clerks should be detail-oriented, with the ability to accurately record and track inventory data, identify discrepancies, and ensure that orders are filled correctly.
Organizational Skills: They should be well-organized, capable of managing multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong time management skills are essential for prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
Communication Skills: Effective communication skills are important for Supply Clerks to interact with colleagues, vendors, and other stakeholders. They should be able to clearly convey information, follow instructions, and work collaboratively as part of a team.
Computer Skills: Proficiency in basic computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook is often required for Supply Clerk positions. Familiarity with inventory management software or ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems is a plus.
Physical Stamina: Supply Clerks may be required to lift and move heavy boxes or packages, as well as stand or walk for extended periods while performing warehouse tasks. Physical stamina and the ability to safely handle materials are important.
Problem-Solving Abilities: They should be able to identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and implement solutions independently or with minimal supervision. Problem-solving skills are essential for resolving inventory discrepancies and addressing operational challenges.
