Job Description
The role involves conducting on-site and off-site inspections of insurance and reinsurance companies, intermediaries, and other service providers. The Supervision Officer assesses compliance with the Insurance Act and related regulations, evaluates financial and operational performance, and identifies risks to the insurance sector. The officer also contributes to the development of supervisory guidelines and provides recommendations for enforcement actions when necessary.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct on-site inspections of insurance and reinsurance companies to assess compliance with regulatory requirements.
Perform off-site surveillance by analyzing financial statements, returns, and other reports submitted by insurers.
Identify and assess risks within the insurance sector and recommend appropriate supervisory actions.
Develop and update supervisory guidelines and prudential standards.
Prepare detailed reports on findings from inspections and surveillance activities.
Liaise with other regulatory bodies and stakeholders to share information and coordinate supervisory activities.
Provide technical support in the licensing process of insurance entities.
Participate in policy formulation and review processes related to insurance supervision.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in insurance supervision, auditing, or a related area.
Professional Qualifications:
Professional certification such as ACII, CPA, or equivalent is an added advantage.
Competencies and Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
Proficiency in data analysis and financial reporting tools.
High level of integrity and professionalism.
Additional Requirements:
Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
