Job Description
The Senior Human Resource Officer will be responsible for the full spectrum of human resource operations including policy development, recruitment, workforce planning, performance management, employee engagement, compensation and benefits, compliance, and HR reporting. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent leadership and interpersonal skills who can manage complex HR functions while fostering a culture of accountability and growth.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop and implement HR policies and procedures in line with Kenyan labor laws and best practices
Manage the recruitment process, from job descriptions to onboarding
Collaborate with departments to develop annual workforce plans
Lead performance management systems and appraisals
Design and roll out staff training and development programs
Resolve employee relations issues and disciplinary cases
Oversee compensation structures and manage employee benefits programs
Support organizational change including restructuring and realignment
Maintain and enhance HRIS for accurate employee records
Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing in coordination with finance
Conduct internal HR audits for statutory compliance (NSSF, NHIF, PAYE)
Foster a culture of inclusion, engagement, and continuous learning
Track and manage onboarding, orientation, and probation for new hires
Drive diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives
Prepare monthly HR reports and analytics for leadership
Advise management on HR policy, employment law, and best practices
Liaise with external HR service providers and unions (if applicable)
Develop and monitor succession plans for critical roles
Recommend new HR approaches in response to emerging trends
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field
Master’s degree in HRM, Organizational Development, or a related field is an added advantage
Minimum of 5–10 years progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a senior role
Professional HR certification (e.g., CHRP, IHRM) preferred
In-depth knowledge of Kenyan labor laws and HR compliance
Experience in HR strategy development and execution
Strong communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills
Proven ability to manage diverse teams and large HR operations
