Job Description
The Senior Consultant will support the delivery of social performance work including social baseline studies, socio-economic assessments, stakeholder engagement plans, grievance mechanisms, and consent processes. The role includes significant fieldwork and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to ensure integration of social considerations in large-scale capital projects. Candidates must be willing to travel to remote field sites and adhere to ERM’s rigorous health and safety standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Support and execute social baseline studies and socio-economic profiling
Conduct community needs assessments and identify vulnerable groups
Assist in developing Stakeholder Engagement Plans and Grievance Redress Mechanisms
Contribute to Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) processes where applicable
Support preparation of technical deliverables including reports and proposals
Participate in socio-economic data collection and analysis
Collaborate across service lines to ensure integration of social performance
Travel to field sites and conduct stakeholder consultations
Stay informed on relevant regulations and international standards (e.g., IFC, WB, AfDB)
Track and share social sustainability trends internally and with clients
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, Development Studies, or related discipline
Experience:
Minimum 4 years’ relevant professional or consulting experience
Experience in social impact assessments, stakeholder engagement, FPIC, livelihoods restoration, and grievance mechanisms highly desirable
Skills and Competencies:
Strong analytical and conceptual skills
Competency in quantitative and qualitative data analysis
Excellent written and verbal communication in English
Proficiency in French or Portuguese is an added advantage
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in multicultural teams
Flexibility to manage multiple assignments and adapt to dynamic environments
Commitment to learning and growth
