Job Description

The consultant will work remotely and report to the Programme Officer responsible for the GEMI project in the Urban Basic Services Section. Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and supporting the methodology for monitoring total and industrial wastewater flows and treatment in alignment with UN-Water guidance and SDG 6.3.1 metadata

  • Collaborating closely with WHO, UNSD, OECD, Eurostat, and other partners to improve data quality and harmonization

  • Supporting data collection and analysis using tools such as the UNSD/UNEP Questionnaire on Environment Statistics and the OECD/Eurostat Joint Questionnaire on Inland Waters

  • Contributing to a coherent data repository for SDG 6.3.1 through cross-database review and validation

  • Consulting on terminology, metadata comparisons, and national data processes to support consistent international wastewater data collection

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, Public Health, or a related field

  • A first-level university degree with 7 years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master’s

  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in environmental sciences, water resources management, or related fields

  • At least 5 years' experience in monitoring water, sanitation, and hygiene services

  • Experience with scientific analysis and reporting in wastewater and water quality

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management tools

  • Experience with GIS in urban contexts is an asset

  • Prior experience working with the United Nations is desirable

  • Strong understanding of technical wastewater issues and global data harmonization
