Job Description
Job Title: Security Officer
Organisation: Tropical Bank
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Job Summary: Implement the security strategy of the bank to ensure the safety and security of the bank’s assets, employees, and customers.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Implement the Bank’s security policy, enforcement of standards, controls, processes, and regulatory-determined procedures for physical security and safety.
Drive security programs, training, and initiatives for employees and other critical stakeholders on security matters, protocols, emergency procedures, and safety measures.
Conduct thorough analysis to identify root causes of security-related incidents and recommend preventive measures to mitigate future risks.
Develop a culture of security awareness and practice throughout the bank by conducting regular security awareness programs.
Assess security risks and ensure appropriate measures are in place to protect the bank’s property and persons.
Investigate internal incidents, security incidents, and policy violations to determine circumstances, ascertain facts, determine responsibility, and recommend appropriate actions and remedial measures.
Collaborate with law enforcement agencies to provide information, witness statements, or evidence-related incidents that may require legal intervention.
Monitor security systems, cameras, and footage for proper functioning and report any malfunctions, irregularities, breaches, or incidents to the appropriate authorities and management for prompt resolution.
Regularly conduct security risk assessments and security snap checks to deter criminal activity, determine potential security risks and vulnerabilities, and implement measures to mitigate and prevent security threats.
Collect and analyse security intelligence and issue security alerts when called upon.
Safeguard sensitive information and maintain confidentiality, especially in matters related to security and investigations.
Resolve conflicts and disturbances calmly and professionally while minimizing disruptions to the Bank’s operations.
Propose contingency plans for all the security threats and emergencies likely to affect business.
Liaise with the supervisors of contracted security companies to effect regular rotation of security guards deployed at TBL premises.
Maintain updated service level agreements with security guarding, CIT, CCTV, and Alarm maintenance service providers.
Prepare security reports and present them to the Risk Management Committee.
Comply with AML/CFT/CPF policies and procedures, non -compliance of which shall be addressed as per the bank disciplinary processes.
Any other duty as shall be assigned to you from time to time.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Information Technology (IT), or any related field.
Professional Certification in Security Management is an added advantage.
Bachelor’s Degree in any Discipline.
Experience
At least 3 years of experience in a security-related field, preferably within the banking or financial services sector.
Proficiency in operating and monitoring CCTV, alarms, and other surveillance equipment.
Experience in coordinating security operations during emergencies
Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles to protect the bank from digital threats
Experience in implementing and maintaining security policies and compliance.
Hands-on experience in incident management, including responding to bank robberies and digital attacks.

Proficiency in drafting professional correspondence, reports, and proposals.
