Job Description
To promote learning and accountability, LGF is conducting a research study exploring the relationship between teacher agency and teacher well-being among primary school teachers in Kampala and Arua districts. Research Assistants will support data collection efforts, working closely under the supervision of the Field Supervisor. Responsibilities include participating in training, identifying schools, obtaining consent, conducting interviews and surveys, managing data, and ensuring ethical standards are upheld. The role requires experience in data collection and familiarity with digital tools like ODK or KoboCollect.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Attend a mandatory two-day training session at a designated location.
Help with field preparations and locating sampled schools.
Obtain informed consent from participants prior to data collection.
Administer teacher surveys and conduct classroom observations, interviews, and focus group discussions.
Support data management activities, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Adhere to research ethics and ensure confidentiality at all times.
Safely handle and store both qualitative and quantitative data.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of fieldwork activities.
Participate in daily debrief sessions and report any issues to the Field Supervisor.
Perform any other tasks as assigned within the terms of the contract.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in any field from a recognized institution.
Must be a resident of Arua or Kampala.
Fluency in English is essential.
At least 1 year of experience in both qualitative and quantitative data collection.
Proficiency in mobile data collection tools such as ODK or KoboCollect.
Experience working on research projects with diverse stakeholders, especially teachers.
Strong understanding of ethical research practices.
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
Excellent communication skills.
Experience engaging with diverse communities, particularly in education.
