Job Description
The QC Officers – Microbiology will carry out microbiological testing on raw materials, finished products, purified water systems, and environmental samples. Key responsibilities include sterility testing, endotoxin testing, microbial limit testing, identification of microbial contaminants, and environmental monitoring of cleanrooms. The officers will be responsible for maintaining and calibrating microbiological laboratory equipment, preparing culture media, supporting validation and qualification activities, and maintaining laboratory documentation to meet audit readiness. All activities must comply with pharmacopeial standards, cGMP, GLP, and internal SOPs.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct routine environmental and cleanroom microbiological monitoring.
Analyze purified water and compressed air for microbial contamination in line with USP/BP standards.
Perform sterility testing under validated aseptic conditions.
Conduct microbial limit tests on pharmaceutical products and raw materials.
Identify specific microorganisms and evaluate total viable counts (TAMC/TYMC).
Prepare, sterilize, and perform growth promotion tests for culture media.
Support HVAC validation, cleanroom qualification, and aseptic process simulations.
Operate and maintain autoclaves, incubators, laminar airflow cabinets, and colony counters.
Comply with cGMP, GLP, and microbiological safety protocols.
Ensure all documentation is audit-ready for NDA, WHO, or GMP inspections.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, or a related field from a recognized institution.
Postgraduate qualifications or certifications in Microbiology or Quality Control are an added advantage.
Experience and Competencies:
3–5 years of experience in an analytical laboratory, preferably within the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry.
Proficient in analytical method development and validation per ICH Q2(R2).
Familiar with compendial methods (USP, BP, Ph. Eur.) and regulatory guidelines (e.g., NDA, WHO PQ, FDA).
Skilled in operating microbiology lab instruments.
Knowledge of method validation parameters such as accuracy, precision, and specificity.
Strong adherence to data integrity (ALCOA+) and audit compliance.
Experience with HPLC, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, FTIR, and dissolution testers is advantageous.
